I have created a selection of ten Ta Koha below. To begin your Te Ha O Te Reo journey click the 'sign me up' button on the Ta Koha you would like to start with - Fill out your details - your name, contact details and location, and click send.

 

I'll be in touch to answer any queries you may have, and to make a time for your first session. Together we'll create a 10 week learning pathway especially for you. 

If you get half way through your ten week block and feel like you've learnt all that you can - I'm more than happy to adjust your Ta Koha to suit.

START WITH PRONUNCIATION

In this ten week block course you will learn the beginnings of correct pronunciation with the 5 Vowel sounds, the 10 Consonants and the 15 Letters of the Maori Alphabet.

FAMILIARISE YOURSELF WITH WORDS

Over a ten week period you will learn to pronounce 100 - 400 Maori words and gain an understanding of their meanings. Conversation starts from here.

UNDERSTAND YOUR SURROUNDINGS

In this ten week block course you will learn about your surroundings and places of significance for you - Family Names, Groups (Iwi), Hills and Mountains (Maunga), Rivers (Awa), Place Names, and their individual meanings. This is the foundation of creating your Pepeha (who you are).

BEGIN TO LEARN COMMON GREETINGS

Learn a variety of greetings that are suitable for formal and informal spaces. The aim at the end of the ten week block course is for you to be comfortable with how and when to use these greetings within your every day.

You will also start the foundation of your Mihimihi (introduce yourself).

SIMPLE CONVERSATION

Understanding and saying every day phrases suitable for using at home and at work. Begin to converse on a basic level adding more and more as you move through the ten week block course.

SIMPLE PRAYER

A ten week block course in which you will learn Karakia (Prayer) for any occasion - to bless food, open or close a meeting and the Lords Prayer.

ADVANCED CONVERSATIONAL MAORI

Ways and tips to learn and maintain daily conversation. Become familiar with 20 - 40 idioms to use in your daily korero. Fluency starts to blossom in this ten week block course.

INTRODUCE YOURSELF. YOUR PEPEHA AND YOUR MIHIMIHI

Build on your knowledge and learn what a Pepeha and Mihimihi are.

Begin to create your Pepeha and Mihimihi by exploring your identity and where you come from. Over the ten week block course you will become comfortable saying both your Pepeha and Mihimihi and prepare yourself to say them in front of others.

Choose songs that are relevant to you, or learn the meanings of these classic East Coast waiata - Paikea, Aue Ta Apirana or Tomo Mai.This ten week block gives deeper meaning to the songs you are singing (or want to sing).
